Search. Contribute. Repeat. The New Code.europa.eu

New home page

Published on: 11/03/2026 News

The European Commission has launched a redesigned front page for code.europa.eu, the official repository for free/open source software developed by the European institutions. The new web look prioritises immediate access to the platform’s core functions: discovery, contribution, and the principles of the open source working culture.

What’s new?

  • A Find-First Design:

A prominent search bar allows developers to scan the repositories instantly.

  • Curated Categories:

The homepage highlights featured projects and trending repositories, making it easier to identify high-impact codebases.

  • Optimised Onboarding:

Direct paths for developers looking to contribute, providing answers to practical questions on how and where to get started.

Code.europa.eu is aimed at making public-funded free/open source code more accessible and reusable for public services, citizens and businesses alike. By reducing the friction between discovery and implementation, the platform strengthens the European Union’s commitment to transparent, collaborative digital infrastructure.

The revamp aligns with the platform’s increasing popularity. Since its launch in September 2022, code.europa.eu has grown to host over 1,000 projects, bringing together well over 4,000 registered users; this expansion follows our transition to a high-availability architecture last September to ensure a more robust experience.

The new front page - a static site - is automatically created once a week, using Javascript to update the content where necessary.
