iGloo is an open-source Windows application that simplifies migration from Windows to Linux. It installs a supported Linux distribution while keeping the existing Windows installation available.

The repository currently contains integrations for Debian, Fedora KDE and Linux Mint Cinnamon, with additional distribution support under development.

Key features:

• Linux System: installs the selected Linux distribution next to Windows in dual-boot and can remove it cleanly, including its partitions and boot entries.
• User Data: migrates files and user profile data to the corresponding Linux home directories.
• Web Browsers: restores active tab sessions and stored login credentials. Firefox family profiles are transferred directly, while Chromium family passwords are decrypted on Windows and re-encrypted for the Linux account.
• System Settings: synchronizes Wi-Fi networks, keyboard layout, wallpaper and per monitor display settings including resolution, refresh rate and rotation.
• Graphics Drivers: detects the GPU and installs compatible drivers including NVIDIA drivers before the first desktop launch.
• Applications: installs native Linux alternatives for detected Windows applications.

The software is released under GPL-3.0-or-later.

Hardware lifecycle: 

This solution can also be used to migrate suitable existing Windows systems to Linux instead of replacing the hardware solely because it no longer meets the requirements of a newer Windows release. This can extend the useful life of existing devices and reduce unnecessary hardware replacement and electronic waste.
