WELCOME

The EU LDT Data Space Ready tool enables cities to securely connect, share, and govern data within trusted data spaces, ensuring interoperability and compliance with European standards.

It provides the infrastructure and mechanisms required to publish, discover, access, and exchange data assets across organisations using decentralised identity, policy-based access control, and contract-driven data sharing.

THE CHALLENGE

Cities increasingly need to collaborate and share data across organisations, platforms, and jurisdictions, but face major barriers:

  • Lack of trust between data providers and consumers
  • No standardised mechanisms for secure data exchange
  • Limited control over how shared data is accessed and used
  • Fragmented identity and authentication systems
  • Difficulty enforcing governance and compliance policies

This leads to:

  • Data silos across institutions
  • Reduced ability to build cross-city or cross-domain use cases
  • Limited scalability of digital twin ecosystems

The challenge is to enable secure, governed, and interoperable data sharing, where organisations can collaborate without compromising control, privacy, or compliance.

HOW IT WORKS

The Data Space Ready tool provides a governed data exchange layer, enabling organisations to participate in data spaces through identity, policy, and contract-based interactions:

dsr graph

Participants are registered using DIDs and Verifiable Credentials, enabling secure authentication and trusted interactions across organisations

Datasets are organised into catalogues and exposed as assets, making them discoverable within the data space ecosystem.

Fine-grained access and usage policies are defined and enforced through contract negotiation mechanisms.

Data transfers are executed via connectors using PUSH/PULL mechanisms, authenticated through credentials and governed by policies.

INTEGRATION WITHIN THE EU LDT TOOLBOX

Input →

Receives datasets, connectors, identities, and policies from organisations and the Data Platform.

→ Output

Provides governed access to datasets, enabling secure data flows to other tools and systems.

The Data Space Ready tool acts as the interoperability and governance backbone of the EU LDT Toolbox.

STANDARDS AND COMPLIANCE

The Data Space Ready tool is aligned with key European data space frameworks and standards: Data Spaces Business Alliance (DSBA) recommendations for interoperable data spaces, W3C Decentralised Identifiers (DID) for identity management, W3C Verifiable Credentials (VC) for secure authentication and trust, SIOPv2 & OIDC4VP for identity and credential exchange and ETSI NGSI-LD (MIM1 & MIM2) for data interoperability.
