Welcome

The Licensing Assistant helps you to compare, select and combine open-source software licenses, ensuring legal clarity and compliance. It offers content analysis and compatibility check and includes searchable SPDX identifiers.

The Licensing Assistant is a unique tool allowing you to compare and select open licences based on their content.

  • The Licensing Assistant is linked to SPDX (for Software Package Data Exchange), an initiative of the LINUX foundation that attempts to standardise the way in which organisations refer to software licenses: each licence is identified by a full name, such as "European Union Public Licence 1.2" and a shorter identifier, here "EUPL-1.2".
  • Licences can be retrieved by entering all or part of their SPDX identifier: for example “UPL” will retrieve both the UPL-1.0 (Universal Permissive License) and the EUPL.
  • In addition, licences can be retrieved based on a content analysis taxonomy where each category is documented.

The Licensing Assistant enables you to:

  • Compare open licences;
  • Select the most relevant open licence;
  • Combine and distribute open software obtained under two different licences.

In addition, you receive detailed information from the SPDX repository.
