The obsAIRve air quality monitoring services deliver near-real-time information for Europe which is provided by the European Copernicus programme (www.copernicus.eu) and by EU member states. The project was initiated by European Commission in 2010 and builds on previous experience gained in the European Copernicus programme. The project is led by GAF AG (www.gaf.de) and involves the partners DLR, T-Systems International and the Environment Agency Austria.
To improve the knowledge of the current air quality situation and to increase the awareness of the European public for environmental health issues, obsAIRve provides easy comprehensible information obtained from scientifically solid base data. The air quality information is disseminated to citizens via a range of communication channels, such as a dedicated website (www.obsairve.eu) and mobile apps for Android and iOS.
Various air quality data providers across Europe are involved in the project. The information products of obsAIRve cover current measurement values as well as forecast model data ranging up to 72 hours.
After three years the project has been concluded with a positive result; the consortium has therefore decided to maintain the obsAIRve services and portal throughout 2014.
