Semantic Assets
Semantic assets or semantic resources is a collection of highly reusable metadata or reference data, which organisations have agreed are essential to understand the meaning of the information they exchange.
Semantic assets are defined as ontologies, data models, dictionaries, code lists, XML and RDF schemas used for information exchange. Implementers of Information systems reuse them in machine-to-machine interfaces (Rodriguez et al., 1992).
Semantic interoperabillity ensures that computer systems can exchange data and share meaning.
Supporting management and sharing knowledge
Organisations produce knowledge in the form of technical resources, training documents, skillsets, insights, and frequently asked questions, among others. Sound management of these resources is a basic requirement to transfer knowledge within and between organisations.
Semantic assets are necessary to give meaning to the information that is exchanged and make it reusable, avoiding duplicating efforts or reinventing the wheel.
ELISE Action contribution to creating semantic resources
In the context of location interoperability and digital transformation, ELISE Action provides a set of materials and resources supporting the knowledge transfer and capacity building with the aim to
- Improve our understanding of Knowledge Transfer capabilities as a common challenge within any organisation.
- Investigate and test methods and techniques to improve Knowledge Transfer capabilities.
- Create a knowledge base embedding the ELISE outputs in a transferrable and exploitable way for organisations and the general public.
- Experiment and produce additional semantic assets for ELISE.
