The SEMIC team attended this workshop on the 8th of January 2026 organised by the French National Council for Geographic Information (CNIG) at the Centre international de conférences de Sorbonne Université.

Artificial intelligence is driving rapid transformations in the field of geolocation information. The objective of this workshop was to anticipate upcoming challenges and define action priorities and coordination strategies in response to these developments.

This workshop brought together government representatives, local authorities, enterprises, researchers, and key AI stakeholders to exchange insights on issues, practices, and common perspectives related to artificial intelligence development in geomatics.

Following a general opening presentation, the following topics were explored in depth:

  • Standardisation, common data spaces, and semantic interoperability in the AI era
  • Specialised AI for data production
  • Perspectives opened by Large Language Models (LLM) for data access

Featured speakers:

  • Pierre Alliez, Research Director at INRIA
  • Jacques Sainte-Marie, Research Director at INRIA and Sorbonne Université, Deputy Scientific Director of INRIA
  • Jocelyn Chanussot, Research Director at INRIA

The SEMIC team actively contributed to Workshop 1 on "Framework for Accessing Data: Standardisation, Common Data Spaces, Semantic Interoperability." This session featured 2-3 short presentations showcasing use cases and ongoing projects, followed by collaborative work. Key discussion topics included AI data requirements, necessary standardisation for data structuring, building structured information from less structured data, and the connection between AI and common data spaces.
