Through this “1st App Developer Contest” contest NISZ and BME aim to encourage development of innovative and creative applications that target communities. “The most useful applications come from simple and unusual ideas, combining and reusing existing information and public data,” BME and NISZ say in their announcement. “We are not expecting great commercial successes, nor millions of applications.”

The results of the competition will be announced in a ceremony at NISZ on 27 February 2018. The best working application will win HUF 500,000. Second and third prizes are respectively HUF 300,000 (about EUR 960) and HUF 150,000 (about EUR 480).

To participate, developers must submit a detailed description and their application’s source code, to allow BME and NISZ to assess the software. At the award ceremony, applications will have to be demonstrated publicly. When evaluating the apps, the jury will look at the user experience, the quality of the source code, and the design of the app. They will also take into account the quality of the documentation.
