
The OSOR team is thrilled to announce the launch of a new eLearning course on open source software for EU Public Administrations, now available on the Interoperable Europe Academy. The course is structured into three modules, each lasting approximately 30mins, and designed to provide both foundational knowledge and practical guidance.
COURSE OVERVIEW
- Module 1: Fundamentals of Open Source Software
Introduces the basics of open source software, its benefits and opportunities, along with key legal considerations within the EU context.
- Module 2: Open Source Governance
Explores the open source software project lifecycle, the role of the Open Source Programme Offices (OSPOs), and the importance of open source communities.
- Module 3: Practical application of Open Source Software
Focuses on licensing, procurement and funding — all key aspects of the adoption and long-term sustainability of open source software in the public sector.
Learners will gain practical knowledge on the core concepts of open source software, governance models, and real-world implementation.
At the end of each module, learners can take a short quiz to assess their understanding and obtain a certificate of completion.
WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR?
Public administration professionals interested in open source; academics and students of EU or public policy; open source practitioners and community members; policymakers and stakeholders at all levels (i.e. EU/national/ regional/local levels).
Course duration: 30 minutes per module (total course duration: around 1.5 hours).
