The official eID Middleware software offers components for using the Belgian electronic ID-card on MS-Windows, MacOS X and Linux.

The middleware does not provide functionality to end-users, but serves as a bridge between desktop and online applications (such as the Federal Authentication Service that is used to authenticate citizens on official websites)  and the physical hardware (identity card).
