| [EU36] SEMIC - “10 Rules for Persistent URIs” | This document explores best practices on the publication of Uniform Resource Identifiers (URI) sets, both in terms of format and of their design rules and management. The recent development of open data and the desire to increase its interoperability have led to an increased reliance on URIs as identifiers for a wide variety of concepts; everything from languages to buildings, government departments to currencies. So, as a conclusion of this study, ten rules were proposed to enforce the correct implementation of the Persistent URIs. |
| [OS08] PURLz (Persistent URLs) | PURLs are Web addresses or Uniform Resource Locators (URLs) that act as permanent identifiers in the face of a dynamic and changing Web infrastructure. Instead of resolving directly to Web resources (documents, data, services, people, etc.) PURLs provide a level of indirection that allows the underlying Web addresses of resources to change over time without negatively affecting systems that depend on them. This capability provides continuity of references to network resources that may migrate from machine to machine for business, social or technical reasons. |
