Explanation

Draft 6 of the GeoDCAT-AP specification proposes as a controlled vocabulary for geographic identifier (dct:spatial) the continents, countries and places Named Authority Lists [18] [19] operated by the Metadata Registry of the Publications Office of the EU.

and the geonames URI sets [20]. http://www.geonames.org/

James Passmore proposes to add here something for Sea Regions, for example those collated by http://www.marineregions.org/

For example BGS has a WMS that provides access to a data set that describes sea bed sediments for the United Kingdom Exclusive Economic Zone:
