Digitale Hochwassermelder
Flood monitoring configurations of the Eifelkreis VERBINDET digital project
Description
In order to be able to respond more quickly and efficiently in future to flood events such as in 2018 and 2021, the [district administration of the Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm](https://www.bitburg-pruem.de/) as part of the Smart Cities Model Project [Eifelkreis VERBINDET](https://www.eifelkreis-verbindet.de/) set the objective of digital level monitoring and flood information. An innovative water monitoring system for the Eifelkreis has been developed in cooperation with [Denten Technik](https://zahnen-technik.de/) from Arzfeld.
As a first step, a total of 32 measuring points were initially identified along the second and partly third order of the Eifel circle, including the Prüm, Nims, Kyll and Enz rivers. The installation of the corresponding digital radar sensors on various bridge structures has already been completed. In addition, five new pegellaets were installed on the bridges in Bettingen, Irrhausen, Kyllburg, Neurath (Arzfeld) and Nimsreuland.
The received data of the level sensors is visualised on a digital application. This system is initially exclusively available for military lines and civil protection and is still in the testing phase. Once the stability of the platform is ensured, public access for the population of the Eifel circle will also be activated. Every citizen will then have the possibility to consult the real-time data of the 32 district’s measuring points and anticipate the risk of flooding.
This project includes the configuration of this system for reuse in other contexts.
