Relationship between StatDCAT-AP and Data Cube

Published on: 28/07/2016 Discussion Archived

The primary focus of StatDCAT-AP is to better describe statistical datasets, for which in LOD we have the Data Cube Vocabulary. However, their relationship is only briefly described in section 3.2.4. Specifically, there is a statement that qb:DataSet and dcat:Dataset have slightly different definitions (true), and that the DCV spec mentions the use of DC and DCAT terms to describe some metadata. This probably links to section 9 of the DCV spec.

As a Linked Data practitioner, I would expect this relation to be much more explicit in StatDCAT-AP to avoid confusion. Specifically, I would expect examples of data cubes (instances of qb:DataSet and qb:DataStructureDefinition) and how they are described using instances of StatDCAT-AP dcat:Dataset and dcat:Distribution, similarly to the SDMX XML examples in the Annexes. As DCV is inspired by SDMX, this should be quite natural.
