This page describes the public review version of GeoDCAT-AP 3.0.0, the GeoDCAT Application Profile for geospatial data portals in Europe (GeoDCAT-AP).
The GeoDCAT-AP specification does not replace the INSPIRE Metadata Regulation nor the INSPIRE Metadata technical guidelines based on ISO 19115 and ISO19119. Its purpose is to give owners of geospatial metadata the possibility to achieve more by providing an additional RDF syntax binding.
In total 58 issues were already addressed or closed in the release for public review. A high-level overview of the changes is the following:
New subproperties
| Introduction of DatasetSeries
Clarification of usage notes, cardinalities License/Rights mappings, label mappings If DCAT-AP 3.0 is already implemented, only minor effort is required to get aligned. Guidance on the usage of DCAT-AP HVD for GeoDCAT-AP was added. |
Over the public review, which ended on September 27th, several editorial issues, bug fixes and clarifications were added to both GeoDCAT-AP 3.0.0 and the XSLT, but no substantial changes were made.
The full changelog can be found on the specification page or as a list on GitHub.
You can find the release of GeoDCAT-AP 3.0.0 that is open for public review here. You can leave your feedback on this GitHub issue page.
Additionally, the XLST tool, supporting the transformation from ISO/INSPIRE metadata to GeoDCAT-AP compliant metadata, was brought up to date to be in line with GeoDCAT-AP.
About GeoDCAT-AP
GeoDCAT-AP is an extension of DCAT-AP for describing geospatial datasets, dataset series and services. It provides an RDF syntax binding for the union of metadata elements defined in the core profile of ISO 19115:2003 and those defined in the framework of the INSPIRE Directive. Its basic use case is to make spatial datasets, data series and services searchable on general data portals, thereby making geospatial information better searchable across borders and sectors. This can be achieved by the exchange of descriptions of data sets among data portals.
GeoDCAT-AP is a joint initiative of:
- the Joint Research Centre (JRC);
- the Directorate-General for Environment (DG ENV), and;
- the Directorate-General for Digital Services (DIGIT) in the context of the Interoperable Europe Programme.
