Description:

Quoting "The Publications Office of the European Union recommends the use of ISO 3166-1 codes for countries in all cases except two:

• use 'UK' in preference to the ISO 3166 code GB for the United Kingdom;
• use 'EL' in preference to the ISO 3166 code GR for Greece."

It is recommended to request EC to approach ISO in order to formally submit a change request for the ISO country codes

It has been suggested that we:

• ask DBpedia to include relevant URIs based on EL and UK that would then redirect to the ISO-based equivalents
• ask ISO to update the 3166 list

Eurostat now consistently uses EL and UK (as of this month). The EU Publications office accepts either. What does the WG want to do?
