Join us for the OSOR Workshop "Leveraging Open Source: Creating a Handbook for Public Sector OSS Implementers." on 12 December.

We invite public sector professionals and open source practitioners to join our workshop on 12 December focused on developing a comprehensive implementation handbook for open source software.

Following our recent community consultation, this workshop represents a strategic opportunity to refine and validate our draft handbook. We will present the consultation findings and invite participants to engage in a structured discussion to further develop this critical resource for public sector technology implementation.

The workshop aims to create a practical, action-oriented handbook that addresses the nuanced challenges of open source software adoption within governmental and public institutional contexts. Participants will have the opportunity to contribute their professional insights, share implementation experiences, and help shape a resource that can guide future open source initiatives.

Our objective is to develop a handbook that provides clear, practical guidance for public sector organisations considering or expanding their open source software strategies. By leveraging collective expertise, we seek to create a definitive reference that demystifies the technical and organisational considerations of open source technology adoption.

Participants will play a direct role in developing a resource that can support more efficient, cost-effective, and innovative technological solutions across public sector environments. This collaborative approach ensures that the handbook reflects real-world experiences and practical implementation strategies.

During the workshop, we will also take some time to identify and discuss the needs and preferences for designing a 3-module training course on open source software for civil servants. The course will be tailored to three levels of expertise: Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced. It will focus on the key concepts of open source development, equipping civil servants with the necessary skills to manage open source projects, and sharing best practices in open source governance across the public sector. You can learn more here.

You can still register to the workshop here.

We look forward to your participation in this collaborative workshop to advance open source adoption in the public sector!
