The Reference data building block is a web application used for the management of reference data with special consideration for system performance and reusability. In order to make the reference data usable from different applications, the Reference data building block exposes a web service that provides a unique and reliable source of reference data to web app accessible using a specific client application.

The consumer apps will include the client library of The Reference data building block that will allow reading and manipulating reference data. Through the client library, the consumer apps will be able to read any of the available versions of the reference data, filter and sort when needed. Also, the client library provides a caching mechanism for an increased performance of the consumer app and synchronization functionality between cache and server entities following a specific schedule.

The Reference data building block service provides several important benefits to the consumer apps, such as keeping the reference data up-to-date from reliable sources. As well, the reference data will be available in all languages spoken in EU.

The Reference data building block is used by the Forms building block for content generation of user forms.
