In a significant move to bolster Europe’s digital economy, the European Committee for Standardisation (CEN) and the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardisation (CENELEC) have announced the establishment of a new joint Technical Committee, JTC 25, focused on Data Management, Dataspaces, Cloud, and Edge technologies. This initiative aims to support the widespread adoption of digitalisation across the continent, promoting the creation of a fully functioning Single Digital Market for the European Union. Data is increasingly recognised as the vital fuel driving innovation and transforming industries. To harness this potential, CEN and CENELEC are committed to making data accessible while prioritising its security. JTC 25 will develop standards that will facilitate seamless data exchange, reduce compliance costs, lower market entry barriers, and create new business opportunities and a key focus will be on ensuring interoperability across various sectors.

UNI, Italy’s national standardisation organisation, will serve as the Secretariat through its IT-specialised federated body, UNINFO.

According to UNINFO:

CEN and CENELEC JTC 25 will play a pivotal role in developing the standards necessary for data management, dataspaces, cloud, and edge technologies at the European level. By driving innovation and ensuring interoperability, we aim to enhance the EU industry’s efficiency, productivity, and global competitiveness.
