What does ‘cloud sovereignty’ mean?

The European Commission new Cloud Sovereignty Framework provides a clear and standardised method to assess cloud services, moving from abstract principles to concrete sovereignty metrics. The framework is built on 8 sovereignty objectives that provide a 360-degree view of sovereignty. These cover everything: from the strategic and legal side to supply chain and technological sovereignty, ensuring that all critical aspects are evaluated.

How to put cloud sovereignty in action? This is precisely what the European Commission is doing with its new 'Sovereign Cloud' procurement. The Commission aims to procure EUR 180 million of sovereign cloud services for the EU Institutions and Agencies.
