This study provides an early-stage analysis of Web APIs as enablers for the digital
While the digital transformation of government is much wider than the technologies which can potentially support it, an analysis of the role of Web APIs in the public sector is highly relevant to illustrate how technology can enable the transformation of government.
Areas of specific focus include cross-border interoperability between the Member States and the opportunity for the EU to become involved in developing or advocating API standards.
A multiple-case study comparative analysis has been applied to selected case studies. Due to the fact that this work has been undertaken by the European Location Interoperability Solutions for e-Government (ELISE) Action of the ISA² Programme, a number of API cases in the geospatial domain have been analysed. Moreover, the study contains a specific section dedicated to the specific role and relation of APIs in the geospatial domain.
