The Government of Extremadura opens up public consultation for the participation in the development of the Digital Agenda of Extremadura; an integrating, sustainable and intelligent project of all actions projected on Information Technology and Communication matters into the region, involving all stakeholders and tied agents in the ICT sector in Extremadura.

The aim is to establish an action plan which will respond, in the following years, to current challenges with specific actions that stimulate the economy and that allow to meet the social challenges of the digital era, building a bridge from Extremadura to the furure.

The web http://www.extremaduradigital.org and the Twitter account https://twitter.com/AgendaDigitalEx have been set up in order to carry out the collaborative process of public consultation.

To promote the participation and revitalization of both tools, a series of working groups have also been created, addressing issues such as the Future Internet and exploring different business models concerning the optical fiber and the measures for cost reduction which might foster the deployment of high speed broadband infrastructures in the region as well as e-commerce or the use and potential of social networking and Web 2.0, which focus on the direct participation of citizens and a more efficient service provision by public bodies. The purpose of these working groups is to channel the contributions gathered in the process of public consultation. With the same purpose, a series of surveys have been carried out in each of these groups, which will allow to identify the specific proposals for each area.

The Regional Digital Agenda's aim is to strengthen the efforts carried out in the region involving all stakeholders in the digital market of Extremadura to the extent that it will address the main challenges posed in the digital environment Extremadura and will provide mechanisms to exploit the opportunities that our technology infrastructure provides. At the International Seminar held last April 19, 2012 in the city of Cáceres, the participants discussed, as part of the process, about the mechanisms to implement effective policies in Extremadura concerning the broadband strategy and the development of Internet access in remote areas.

A collaborative process is now opened up among the parties involved in the implementation of the Digital Agenda, which also involves the Public Administration, technology centers, universities, citizens in general, telecommunications companies, cable and mobile telephone operators as well as computing applications' development operators.
