Description:
The examples are misleading: “'Spain' is an example of a country name; 'SW1P 3AD' is an example of a postcode. Both are geographic names." This is in contradiction to the UNGEGN practice of understanding and defining the concept of geographical names. Within national and international standardization of geographical names a clear distinction between codes and geographical names is needed. Codes are NOT necessarily geographical names, although both are important geographical identifiers according to ISO 19112. A Code might become a geographical name - as an exception - only if a special meaning and significance can be attached to it. If examples are to be introduced for explanation, please us those displayed in INSPIRE Data Specification on Geographical Names (technical guidance document) or focus on examples for geographic Identifier according to ISO 19112.
