Bulgaria’s Ministry of Transport, Information Technology and Communications (MTITC) is to build a portal to manage all current and future telecommunication network infrastructure works. The portal will use a Geographic Information System (GIS) solution, allowing better planning of construction and maintenance of telecom infrastructure.

MTITC announced the portal on 19 April.

The portal will show on a map where construction and repair works are planned. At the same time, information can be made available about the network operators that are involved, and the portal can also display permits and other required documents. Next to managing ongoing installation and maintenance work, the portal should also display the rights of access to networks, and show which networks should be shared. The latter follows a general trend in Europe to stimulate infrastructure sharing, MTITC writes.

MTITC says the database will be integrated with other facilities, for rail networks, ports and other infrastructure projects.

The project should reduce the cost of constructing high-speed electronic communications networks, the ministry writes. Creating the portal will cost close to LEV 2 million (about EUR 100,000), it adds.
