More and more citizens are choosing to use the Czech POINT, or communicate directly with the authorities electronically via data boxes, rather than have a face-to-face meeting in an office. The evidence for this is a record number of 205 897 listings, which in January 2014 people got from one of more than 7 000 public administration contact points. January was also a milestone in terms of the usage of data boxes, with users sending a record number of 5 756 030 data messages. In terms of eGovernance, these services are both among the most used in the Czech Republic.

A record number of more than 200 000 listings for Czech POINT is not merely an abstract official number. For each listing, a statement was issued to a particular person, which through the Czech POINT service saved a trip to an office and the time that would previously have been spent there. Today, citizens do not need to go to a different office for each statement, as they get everything in one place. Not only is Czech POINT a system that works seamlessly, but it also provides users visible benefits. The number of the services available is also constantly expanding.

Most people still use the Czech POINT service for a printed statement of criminal records or from the real estate cadastre. Criminal records released in January totalled 65 352, while land registry records were at a record number of 205 897, contributing 47 664 issued statements. The statistics also showed the growing popularity of document conversion. Although a greater number of citizens came to Czech POINT to officially convert electronic documents into the classical paper format, it is increasingly also used to make the conversion from the paper to the electronic format.

In 190 000 cases, people took advantage of the fact that a document in electronic format has the same validity as the document in its paper format.

Regarding data boxes, while it is still true that they are primarily used for the authorities to communicate with companies, entrepreneurs and ordinary citizens, they are increasingly being used by the business sector and individuals. In January 2014, the ratio of messages sent by the public authorities to that sent by businesses or individuals was 77 % to 23 %. Monday 27 January 2014, when 301 956 data messages were sent, was the first time that more than 300 000 messages had been sent in a single day.

The most used services on Czech POINT are:

  • Criminal record: 4 457 000 (43.2 %)
  • Cadastre: 2 322 000 (22.4 %)

Background Information:

Czech POINT (Český Podací Ověřovací a Informační Národní Terminál, in Czech) is a network of one-stop access points to eGovernment services intended to prevent citizens from visiting several offices, thus significantly reducing excessive administrative burden. Through these one-stop points, the general public is able to access all public records and to obtain transcripts/extracts, as well as information statements from the national registers. The Czech Points are primarily located at post offices, municipal authority offices, registry offices and Czech embassies.
