A number of controlled vocabularies in the CERIF standard vocabularies (http://www.eurocris.org/Uploads/Web%20pages/CERIF-1.5/CERIF1.5_Semantic…) can be used.
Further vocabulary development with respect to Managing Research Data are under way with CASRAI activities (http://casrai.org) and VIVO (http://vivoweb.org).

It looks like most of them are topic-specific languages and not many are general-purpose one. My understanding is that in the benefit of interoperability we should focus on general-purpose vocabularies here and let topic-specific interoperability for any other WGs working on that given topic.
It would be nice to have a selection of some (a few) useful reference general-purpose vocabularies, but my main concern here is that providing a list of 400+ vocabularies (even just as a reference) may probably give room for confussion and less interoperability in the long term.

In addition to the proposed common vocabularies in section 8.2, further region or domain-specific vocabularies can be used. While those may not be recognised by general implementations of the Application Profile, they may serve to increase interoperability across applications in the same region or domain. Examples are the full set of concepts in Eurovoc, the CERIF standard vocabularies[1], the Dewey Decimal Classification[2] and numerous other schemes.
