The European Commission through the ISA Programme developed this Case Study to present different approaches for exporting semantic asset descriptions in an ADMS compliant way.

Introduction

Many EU Member States are using or plan to use a repository to support the management of their semantic assets. As each repository stores and describes semantic assets in its own way exchanging information  across Member States is not easy. To overcome this barrier, ISA has developed the Asset Description Metadata Schema (ADMS). This standardised vocabulary, expressed in RDF and XML, enables Member States to describe semantic assets in a common way . Once ADMS descriptions are available, semantic assets can easily be shared across borders. The following slides present some solutions for organisations to describe semantic interoperability assets according to ADMS:

• In Germany, the Federal Office for Information Technology  has developed a Software Component for exporting the semantic assets from its XRepository into ADMS;
• DERI  has developed a Service oriented framework for exporting semantic assets using web-harvesting technology.;
• ISA developed a spreadsheet template that can be Manually populated with semantic asset descriptions and imported in  Google Refine for conversion into ADMS.
