Innovating EU Public Sector: Insights from PSTW Webinar on AI Competencies and Governance

On April 23, 2024, the first webinar of the "Innovating the EU public sector in Europe" series provided a deep dive into AI competencies and governance practices necessary for public sector innovation. The event, which featured leading experts like Patrick Mikalef from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology and Rony Medaglia from the Copenhagen Business School, explored critical findings from an extensive empirical study spanning seven countries.

Highlights from the webinar include:

  • Presentation of Findings: Discussion on 25 technology competencies, 16 managerial competencies, and 15 policy/legal/ethical competencies essential for AI integration in public governance.
  • Expert Panel Discussion: An engaging panel that debated on how the EU can streamline AI governance practices across member states.
  • Recommendations for Future Policy: Key strategies were proposed to enhance AI literacy and competency among public sector managers.

This session not only shed light on the current state of AI capabilities within the EU public sector but also charted a course for future developments.
