The Swiss Federal Department for Building and Logistics (BBL) is looking for providers of ICT services with experience in the use of GeoNetwork, open source tools for geolocation information. BBL hopes to sign an 8 year framework contract for consulting, software development and support.

BBL wants to improve access to its geodata an related geo-services. It wants to extend the current geoportal, GeoCat.ch, which was built in 2008, to provide the public online access to its geodata.
On Geocat.ch, Swiss federal authorities, cantons, municipalities and companies can publish their geodata metadata records. This makes Geocat.ch “an integral part of the infrastructure and processes of the Confederation and the National Geodata Infrastructure”, BBL writes in its procurement document, published on 23 November. When necessary, the project will also work on swisstopo, managed by the Swiss Federal Office of Topography.
At the moment, BBL is managing the GeoCat project with the help of Camptocamp, a Lausanne-based ICT company specialising in open source geospatial solutions. BBL notes in its procurement document that the firm is explicitly allowed to submit an offer, as it was not involved in the preparation of the tender. “No supplier has gained a competitive advantage for the present tender by their previous activities with the requisite agency.”
The deadline to submit tenders is on 9 January.
