Denmark’s Minister for Public Sector Innovation has awarded the Genbrugprisen (Reuse Award) of DKK 100,000 (about EUR 13,000) to the OS2 community, honouring the municipalities’ development of reusable ICT solutions.

The award was announced at the OffDig 2019 conference, which took place on 13 and 14 March in Aarhus. “We need more smart digital solutions to be adopted widely by the public sector,” a press release quotes minister Sophie Løhde as saying. “The award is an excellent example of how to co-create better solutions, with reusable, mutual benefits.”

The OS2 community specifies, develops and governs ICT solutions by and for municipalities. Its overall objective is to co-create ICT solutions, based on open source and open data, that can be shared and reused. Of Denmark’s 98 municipalities, 64 (or two out of three) are members of OS2.

Examples of solutions made by OS2 include OS2autoproces, which makes it easier for municipalities to automate knowledge sharing, OS2faktor, a 2-factor identification solution that can be added to a municipal workflow, and OS2rollekatalog, for user management and role assignment.

OS2 board member Jens Kjellerup (CIO at Ballerup Kommune) said the award gives a “huge recognition” to the community’s work to make ownership and development successful in a network that involves public sector and commercial ICT support suppliers.

The association hopes the award will encourage more public sector organisations to join.
