The Open Website Community OS2web, a group of Danish municipalities cooperating on the use and customisation of Drupal, an open source content management system, will continue the development of the authentication service Cprbroker. The group took this decision on their annual meeting in the city of Ballerup, on 14 May.
Cprbroker delivers validated identity service on citizens and employees to the municipalities local systems. Cprbroker services includes automatic updates and notifications services of changes in identities. CPR (Central Person Register) is the national personal identification numbering system in Denmark.
"The municipalities that use Cprbroker are broadly the same as the OS2web members", the group motivated its decision. "Rather than create a separate organisation, with a new board and website, it is more efficient to bring the project into our organisation."
The open source Cprbroker was originally specified and funded by Denmark's IT and Telecom Agency and the municipality of Gentofte in common. The municipality and the agency disbanded the project in 2010. Since 2012 the municipality of Lyngby-Taarbæk has lead the development of new versions of Cprbroker co-funded by 12 municipalities. OS2 writes:: "After three years of no significant development activity, the Cprbroker is now in a active development state. Present version was released in December 2012 and the next release is due for release in June 2013."
Cprbroker is made available as open source, using the Mozilla Public Licence.
The annual general meeting was attended by representatives from 18 municipalities, including København, Sorø, Vallensbæk, Rebild, Lyngby-Taarbæk, Roskilde and Ballerup.
