MidPoint 4.8, an LTS Release That Brings Improvements in Multiple Areas

51st MidPoint Release

Published on: 31/10/2023 News

Evolveum has recently released midPoint 4.8, which is the third LTS midPoint version that will provide substantial value to users for many years to come. Code-named after Marie Salomea Skłodowska-Curie, the Polish-French physicist and chemist whose discoveries echoed through several fields of science and technology, this 51st release similarly brings improvements in numerous areas.

One of the areas midPoint 4.8 focuses on is providing streamline upgrades thanks to the improved Ninja tool which leads users through the upgrade. The improvements cover the reporting process, object validation, and data migration, thanks to which users can better see what’s going on, and where and what problems they are facing.

To simplify access management, midPoint 4.8 comes with role mining: artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms and analytical techniques that help organizations shift from a chaotic role permission model to a more organized business role-based model. This feature is a result of a successful cooperation with KinIT, an independent institute dedicated to intelligent technology research.

The release also brings plenty of improvements regarding security. For example, the authorization model was extended to support more use cases than before, and authorization performance was improved. A faster and more flexible elevation feature is now available. In addition to those improvements, an OWASP dependency-check was added to Evolveum’s Jenkins to quickly detect any publicly disclosed vulnerabilities within used dependencies.

Evolveum has created a simplified midPoint deployment methodology which guides users through the quick deployment of simple midPoint configurations. First Step Methodology aims to start an iterative identity management program to get the desired outcome in a series of small steps of connecting new systems, cleaning up data, and automating processes. For this area, Evolveum mainly focused on improving the user experience in midPoint. Different improvements were made, mostly related to the resource wizard to make the process of connecting new systems as simple as possible.

Last but not least, driven by a subscriber, a new feature for identity recovery was added. This feature brings the possibility to recover users’ data in case they were forgotten.

As a true open source platform, you can download midPoint 4.8 without any barriers, try it, and test it. Moreover, there are many publicly available resources to help every midPoint user, such as documentation, the Practical Identity Management With MidPoint book, video tutorials, and many others. MidPoint has a lively community of partners, subscribers, users, and technology enthusiasts. Thanks to their commitment, everyone can benefit from the community effort. Some of the great examples include localization, the growing number of connectors, discussing various topics on our mailing lists, among others. All this creates a strong base for everyone when it comes to regaining control over digital identity with midPoint. See it for yourself!
