MidPoint 4.7: Evolveum’s Latest Release That Predicts the Future

45th MidPoint Release

Published on: 20/04/2023 Last update: 31/10/2023 News

Evolveum is proud to announce the latest release of midPoint 4.7, which introduces new innovative functionalities. Code-named after Katherine Johnson, the American mathematician whose trajectory calculations were critical for the success of many crewed spaceflights, this 45th release similarly brings an opportunity to project trajectories. Simulations covered in the release make it possible to avoid unnecessary risks by predicting results of future operations before they are applied. Improved identity governance reports provide valuable insights into identity data. Object marks, improved password reset, and numerous user experience improvements make identity management with midPoint 4.7 easier and safer.

Confident Decision Making with Simulations

To lift the burden off engineers’ shoulders, simulations help create hypothetical scenarios to evaluate the impact of certain changes before implementing them in the actual system. This feature lets you see the expected effects of actions, identify potential issues, reduce error possibility without the risk of damaging the system state, which would result in increased confidence in engineers’ decisions, and build stronger relationships with other stakeholders.

Extended Password Reset Functionality

MidPoint 4.7 comes with increased security thanks to the password reset functionality being extended with multiple verifications. In addition to security policy configurations referenced from system configuration, the improved security policy logic in midPoint 4.7 allows a user to have multiple security policies defined in different places such as system configuration, the organization structure, and an archetype. All security policies applicable to a user are merged together, and as a result, the authentication flow is computed. With this new functionality, midPoint enters a new area of IAM, multi-factor authentication.

Simplified Processes Thanks to the Role Wizard

The creation of application and business roles has been simplified thanks to the Role Wizard. This feature offloads IdM teams in the process of role engineering, as the easy-to-use user interface helps transfer part of the role engineering activities to end users. The Role Wizard can therefore be used as a standard interface for the creation and management of roles for business users and technical staff who are not specialized in IdM. Moreover, it can be helpful to new IdM administrators in speeding up the adoption of midPoint.

Facilitated MidPoint Administration With Object Marks

As a light-weight marking mechanism for objects, object marks ease the administration of midPoint and induce specific behavior policies to marked objects. Marked objects can be filtered by a mark in the admin GUI and receive additional policies based on effective marks.

The release also comes with a new version (2.6) of the CSV Connector, a new version (3.6.1) of the LDAP connector bundle, Docker images, MidPoint Studio version 4.7, Prism data representation library 4.7, and the MidPoint client Java library.

As a true open source platform, you can download midPoint 4.7 without any barriers, try it, and test it. Moreover, there are many publicly available resources to help every midPoint user, such as documentation, the Practical Identity Management With MidPoint book, video tutorials, and many others. MidPoint has a lively community of partners, subscribers, users, and technology enthusiasts. Thanks to their commitment, everyone can benefit from the community effort. Some of the great examples include localization, the growing number of connectors, discussing various topics on our mailing lists, among others. All this creates a strong base for everyone when it comes to regaining control over digital identity with midPoint. See it for yourself!
