The Joint Research Centre, Digital Economy Unit in Seville organised on 24-25 October a Policy Lab on “Assessing Impacts of Digital Government Transformation” as part of the research on  Exploring Digital Government Transformation: understanding public sector data-driven (in short DigiGov).

The DigiGov project managed by JRC and funded under the ELISE Action of the European Commission's DIGIT ISA2 Programme aims at understanding how the digital transformation of government can transform policy making, service delivery, and governance systems.

The study, conducted also with the support of an external contractor led by PPMI, follows three work streams including conceptualisation, empirical work, and consultation activities.

The two-day Policy Lab gathered over 40 experts and stakeholders from across Europe, as well as scientific and policy officers from the JRC, DIGIT and CONNECT, and representatives from the contractor’s consortium. The event discussed innovative digital government practices, including the use of technology for providing public services and improving governance of the public sector.

At a more practical level, the policy lab aimed to gather feedback on key elements of the research, including a public sector innovation typology matrix, the revised version of the DigiGov Conceptual framework and the preliminary results of case studies and experiments being conducted as part of the project in Lithuania, Italy, Germany and Spain, The Netherlands and UK.

A more detailed summary report of the Policy Lab is available upon request, as well as material related to the study progresses so far.
