How emerging trends and technologies impact digital government transformation processes?

Emerging technologies refer to those technologies that are novel, fast-growing, and still under development.

They have the potential to alter society and the economy, but their impact lies in the future. At the present moment, while they are emerging, they are still uncertain and ambiguous.

Monitoring new trends and emerging technologies is necessary for most organisations. Following them closely allows discovering opportunities, such as increasing the efficiency and effectiveness of some processes. Emerging technologies can transform operations, unveil new business models, improve systems performance, or solve complex problems.

Some of the emerging technologies that attract the most attention are big data and data analytics; artificial intelligence; blockchain and distributed ledger technologies; Internet of Things including, sensor web enablement and event stream processing; the cloud, the fog and the edge; API's as the new way to expose data; Digital Twins, extended and augmented reality; etc.

Location data can be both a trigger and the foundation of these disruptive technologies. The geospatial sector benefits and incorporates new technologies into location-based solutions; however, it also contributes directly to the emerging technologies landscape.

The ELISE ISA2 action , "European Location Interoperability Solutions for e-Government", supports Digital Government Transformation by making the best use of location data and technologies in an interoperable manner.

In this spirit, one of the ELISE ISA2 action objectives has been to monitor and analyse both emerging trends and technologies as well as the impact that these have on location and particularly on the digital government transformation processes.

This webinar will be the occasion for providing an overview into some specific technological areas ELISE has been dealing with.

In this webinar, Massimo Pedroli from Deloitte will walk you through the following topics:

  • ELISE action supporting the monitoring of new trends and technologies
  • Review of key new trends and emerging technologies impacting in /or coming from the  geospatial domain
  • ELISE action outcomes: monitoring emerging technologies to foster innovation & location-enabled digital government transformation
  • Key messages, remaining challenges and future outlook

The core of the webinar will present a series of user journeys, providing examples of how ELISE can provide support and guidance to different stakeholders needing guidance in understanding benefits and impacts of emerging technologies.

This event is part of the mini-series "ELISE Knowledge Transfer event pack" aiming at showcasing the main outcomes of the ELISE ISA2 action in the following areas:
