This workshop aimed to enhance the understanding of the ‘digital transformation’ concept, to identify the factors influencing digital transformation and possibilities for a successful digital transformation of the public sector in Europe. Although technology is a necessary building block for digital transformation, it is not sufficient for a successful digital transformation. Indeed factors such as a governance structure, legislation, organizational culture and individual personal skills are also essential. It started by framing the concept ‘digital transformation’, followed by a SWOT analysis on the digital transformation in the European Union, executed by groups of 4 – 5 participants. In this context it is good to mention that the SWOT will focus on the strengths and weaknesses of the current situation, meanwhile the opportunities and threats focus on the future of the digital transformation. From the SWOT analysis results, key lessons learned for the future of the public sector digital transformation in the Europe were be derived.
