What is the Core Standards and Specifications Vocabulary?

CSSV is a CAMSS vocabulary used for the information exchange related to standards and specifications amongst software solutions, and for the description of themselves amongst other specifications. It is a key element for the continuous development of the ELIS, as it allows to list specifications in a machine-readable format.

CSSV is a specification that assures and controls quality of data and information at the basis of standards and specifications for the design and development of interoperable systems supporting Digital Public Services.

The latest release of CSSV is the v1.4.1.

CSSV quadrant

The approach to develop the Core Standards and Specifications Vocabulary, and the other CAMSS Vocabulary, CAV, follows two fundamental principles

  1. Reuse consistently: respect and reuse already existing and commonly agreed interpretation of concepts and ontologies (e.g., DCAT, CCCEV, FOAF etc.), thus facilitating semantic interoperability.

  2. Separate constraints: isolate technical and business limitations and rules as much as possible to ensure flexibility and cost-saving quality of the implementation and maintenance of the “core ” vocabulary.

Based on these principles and existing vocabularies, CSSV defines the classes and related properties for defining concepts for data exchange among specifications, for example:

Why? Benefits

The Core Standards and Specifications Vocabulary reuses common vocabularies on the definition of core vocabularies, which enables and fosters the interoperability of systems and software solutions when exchanging information related to standards and specifications. Moreover, as a core vocabulary, it can be extended to further represent the needs of specific domains.

This way, key benefits of using CSSV are:

  • Enhanced data quality: By defining and reusing standardised vocabularies, CAMSS Vocabularies like CAV ensure the accuracy and consistency of data, leading to higher quality information.

  • Efficient data integration: CAMSS Vocabularies simplify the collection of data from various sources, making it easier to analyse and combine information.

  • Enhanced collaboration: CAMSS Vocabularies support better collaboration among organisations and IT systems, as they provide a common language for data exchange in a machine-readable format.

  • Scalability and relevance: The domain-agnostic nature and flexibility of these vocabularies allow them to adapt to growing and changing data needs, ensuring they remain relevant over time.
