Join SEMIC 2026: Interoperable Europe driving competitiveness
Join Europe’s interoperability and digital government community for SEMIC 2026, the European Commission’s flagship conference on semantic interoperability and digital public services.
Organised by the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Digital Services, DG DIGIT, with the support of the Irish Presidency of the Council of the European Union, SEMIC 2026 will explore how interoperability can help Europe build public services that are simpler, faster, reusable and ready to scale across borders.
This year’s theme, “Interoperable Europe driving competitiveness”, comes at a key moment. As Europe places competitiveness at the centre of its digital agenda, SEMIC 2026 will look at how reusable digital public infrastructure, common specifications and shared data can help public administrations avoid fragmentation, make better use of digital investments and deliver more connected services for citizens and businesses.
Why SEMIC 2026 matters
Interoperability is more than a technical requirement. It is becoming a practical condition for a more competitive, resilient and sovereign Europe.
When public services are designed to work together from the start, administrations can reuse data, specifications and digital building blocks instead of developing isolated solutions again and again. This helps reduce administrative friction, supports cross-border services and creates lasting value from digital investment.
SEMIC 2026 will focus on interoperability and semantics as a way to move from ambition to implementation: building once, reusing multiple times and scaling public services across Europe.

One day, more hands-on than ever
SEMIC 2026 introduces a new format.
In previous editions, the practical workshops took place on a separate pre-conference day. This year, they will be integrated directly into the main conference programme. This means participants will be able to combine strategic insights and hands-on exchanges on the same day. The 2026 programme will move between high-level discussions and practical workshop sessions, creating a stronger link between policy direction and implementation.
Practical workshops at the heart of SEMIC 2026
The SEMIC workshops are where the interoperability community goes deeper. Designed for practitioners, experts and public administrations working on implementation, the workshops will offer a space to exchange experiences, test ideas and discuss real challenges.
This year, the workshops will sit at the centre of the conference experience, helping participants connect Europe’s interoperability policy agenda with the practical work needed to make digital public services function across borders.
Workshop topics will be announced soon.
Discover solutions at the SEMIC EXPO
The SEMIC EXPO returns in Dublin. Public administrations, EU initiatives, research projects, GovTech actors and interoperability practitioners will showcase solutions, share lessons learned and connect with the wider community.
The EXPO will highlight how interoperable approaches are already helping Europe build better digital public services, from reusable tools and shared specifications to concrete implementation stories. It will also offer a great opportunity for you to network and exchange ideas with peers from all over Europe.
EXPO details coming soon

Revisit SEMIC 2025 in Copenhagen
While we look ahead to Dublin, you can revisit the previous edition of SEMIC.
SEMIC 2025 took place in Copenhagen under the theme “Interoperability for Impact” and focused on how interoperability supports real results across Europe’s digital public sector. Recordings of the full event are now available.
What is SEMIC?
SEMIC Conference is the European Commission’s flagship event on semantic interoperability and digital government. It brings together decision makers, public administrations, technical experts, researchers, innovators and practitioners working to make digital public services easier to connect, reuse and scale across Europe.
The conference is part of the SEMIC initiative, which supports semantic interoperability among interconnected e-Government systems. Through the SEMIC Support Centre, the initiative provides resources, guidance and a community of practice for public administrations and organisations working towards a more interoperable European administration, in line with the Interoperable Europe Act.
