IO's vision in a nutshell: put all e-government services into citizens’ pockets, directly on their smartphone via a single mobile app - the IO app.
In a country like Italy, with a bureaucracy so complex that it has become proverbial, people still have to navigate through dozens of digital platforms to figure out how to access services provided by various public bodies or government agencies and manage their obligations to the State. These are the premises with which IO, the app for Italian public services, was born: flip the paradigm underneath the current relationship between Italian citizens and institutions, to achieve a new vision of user-centered public services. With IO, today different administrations can contact the single user through a single app, allowing them to manage operations related to a specific service in a fast, timely and secure way, from the comfort of their smartphone.
This citizen-centric vision, combined with IO's open source-by-design nature, positions it as the pivotal catalyst for the digital transformation of Italian public services. The solution's impact is best illustrated by the following statistics: to date, from the citizen side, the app has garnered over 35 million downloads whilst, from the public administrations' point of view, a total of 15,000 public entities have been onboarded. This enabled the provision of over 235,000 services which produced and delivered nearly 456 million messages to Italian citizens.
Eventually, IO's versatile framework is now ready for the next challenge: an international adoption that could extend its transformative potential even beyond Italian borders.
