The transition from Joinup to the Interoperable Europe Portal is now underway, marking a milestone in the implementation of the Interoperable Europe Act, which entered into force on 11 April 2024. The change marks a significant step in supporting cross-border interoperability across the Union and enhancing digital public services for citizens and businesses.

The new Interoperable Europe Portal

The Interoperable Europe Portal will serve as the main digital platform to support the goals set out in the Act. The portal is replacing Joinup to become the Union's single point of entry for all information related to cross-border interoperability of trans-European digital public services.

Key functions of the Interoperable Europe Portal

Access to Interoperable Europe Solutions

It will offer a user-friendly interface that provides access to interoperability solutions, including the European Interoperability Framework (EIF), Interoperable Europe Academy, GovTech, Open Source, SEMIC, best practices, knowledge sharing and many more. In the future, public sector bodies will be able to search for solutions by country or by service type, enabling easier access to shared resources.

Knowledge and Community Engagement

It will provide access to interoperability-related monitoring data and country knowledge, and foster exchange between members of the Interoperable Europe Community (to be launched in the beginning of 2025), offering opportunities for feedback, collaboration, and participation in digital transformation initiatives.

Support for Interoperability Assessments and Guidelines

The Interoperable Europe Portal will provide essential resources for conducting interoperability assessments, including guidelines, best practices and tools to support the interoperability assessment.  The portal will also be a place for publishing interoperability assessment reports, offering transparency and consistency across the EU.

Innovation and Regulatory Sandboxes

In the future, the portal will also provide information about the controlled experimentation spaces called interoperability regulatory sandboxes, through which authorities may address the development and testing of new interoperability solutions and GovTech projects.

First changes

From November 2024, the Interoperable Europe Portal will be available at a new web address - interoperable-europe.ec.europa.eu. However, the existing Joinup URL will remain operational for a transition period to ensure users can smoothly adapt to the new platform.

As part of this change, the Joinup account on X (formerly Twitter) (@Joinup_eu) will be closing. We invite all Joinup followers to stay connected by following the Interoperable Europe account (@InteroperableEU) to continue receiving updates, news, and important information.

The transition to the Interoperable Europe Portal reflects our commitment to building a more connected, efficient, and user-friendly European digital space. We encourage all stakeholders, including public administrations, SMEs, and digital innovators, to actively engage with the new portal and take advantage of its resources as we collectively shape the future of European digital services.
