Winning over the classroom with Jitsi Hackathon

The EC invites ethical hackers to an Education themed Hackathon with Jisti from 26 April to 03 May 2021!

Winning over the classroom with Jitsi is an online hackathon organised by the open source initiative funded by the ISA2 Sharing and Reuse Action together with Jitsi. It builds upon earlier open source hackathons organised by the European Commission to enable the rapid creation of innovative solutions.

The hackathon is scheduled for the week of 26 April to 03 May 2021.

Let's work together and make sure Jitsi wins over the classroom!

The pandemic disrupted public administrations, businesses, universities, and schools. Both students and teachers struggled to keep up with classes, and to keep them interesting. Jitsi is a free and open source video conferencing tool widely used across the education sector. Any feature improvements resulting from this Hackathon will benefit the European education community.

This is a call to action to all ethical hackers to solve the proposed challenges by Jitsi or come up with new ones to help students and teachers improve their classroom experience. The winners or winning teams will be rewarded with cash prizes from €5000 to €500.

This hackathon is an ISA2 sponsored component of the Sharing and Re-use action (2016.31), which aim to bring together European Public Services on the subject of open source. The action has four areas of focus:

  • Inventory: Creating an initial, first cut, inventory of open source software used by European Public Services
  • Funding: Studying the need for a European Open Source Funding Mechanism, and then defining how it could work
  • Security: running bug bounties on software selected from consulting multiple public administrations
  • Hackathons: Holding events/hackathons to tackle common issues in open source that the European Public Services may be facing.
