ODI's Open Data Rights Statement vocabulary

Published on: 09/07/2013 Discussion Archived

The Open Data Institute (ODI) is carrying out work on an Open Data Rights Statement vocabulary (ODRS) that may be relevant to DCAT-AP as far as licensing is concerned [1,2].

In this thread [3], more details are provided about the scope of ODRS and the difference with similar initiatives - as the ccRel voc [4,5], ODRL [6], and even the DCAT-AP approach based on the notion of licence type (for this, see in particular [7]).

It may be worth including a reference to ODRS in the DCAT-AP spec.

Andrfea,

I see no problem including a reference to ODRS. Can you suggest wording and where to include it?

With pleasure. But I would suggest including in the spec a section on licensing where we can mention relevant work in the area.

I am now including the following:

8.4. Licence vocabularies   Concerning licence vocabularies, implementers are encouraged to use widely recognised licences such as Creative Commons licences , and in particular the CC Zero Public Domain Dedication , the Open Data Commons Public Domain Dedication and License (PDDL) , the European Union Public Licence (EUPL)  or an open government licence such as the UK Open Government Licence .   Further activities in this area are undertaken by the Open Data Institute  with the Open Data Rights Statement Vocabulary  and by the Open Digital Rights Language (ODRL) Initiative .   Footnotes:
