NUTS instead of MDR Countries / Places

Published on: 03/04/2013 Discussion Archived

Does MDR Places cover all regions and provinces ? Perhaps NUTS from Eurostat could be used instead of MDR Countries and/or Places for dct:spatial.

Not sure if Eurostat publishes NUTS as SKOS / RDF, but perhaps Eionet could  be used as a source instead http://rdfdata.eionet.europa.eu/page/ramon/ontology/NUTSRegion

Good idea to harmonize what is used here. Another option could be to use Geonames URI:s?

Unless already used in the original meta/data, GeoNames URIs may not be suitable for gov resources, since location information may be in conflict with the one from official sources. For the same reasons, many gov geoportals do not use Google Maps or OpenStreetMap for basemaps.

According to Publication Ofice, MDR Places is more appropriate.
