The Semantic Interoperability Centre celebrates its 1st anniversary on 17th June 2009.

One year ago, the European Commission launched a platform as part of a comprehensive service to support European eGovernment projects in their efforts for meaningful data exchange.

During the last 12 months, the project of enhancing Europe?s communication capabilities has proven to be a vast field and a rewarding venture at the same time.
The Centre has built bridges for and with the help of more than 50 partner projects and initiatives and 550 registered users.

Better means of exchanging data and preserving its exact meaning have already borne fruit in domains as diverse as waste management, employment services, registry data, justice, health and many more.

At one year of age, the collaborative service SEMIC.EU has only just begun its work. With the help of partners and users, the groundwork has been laid for more cases of successful reuse of assets of interoperability and, thus, better eGovernment in Europe.

SEMIC.EU takes this opportunity to thank its supporters and users.

This goes along with a new call on projects and professionals across Europe to find out the potential of existing solutions for their own causes and to contribute by sharing their ideas, concerns and interoperability assets of any kind ? ontologies, taxonomies, thesauri, code lists.

The Semantic Interoperability Centre Europe heads into its second year with a number of key objectives

fostering the discourse on technical issues like ontology development
new partnerships
new cases of reuse and cooperation among projects, within as well as across domains
comprehensive exchange of knowledge on research in semantic technologies

Wishes and suggestions for improvement are always welcome. Stakeholder requirements determine the future development of the service.
