The Trove system (Trove © SourceForge 2012 CC by) seems to be a good match for what we need in terms of a controlled vocabulary for software descriptions. 

Do we agree that Trove is the best fit? It has similar properties to those envisaged for the tech description of a Software Asset (yellow on the diagram) but we need acess to the classification taxonomy itself. Is there a (good) alternative if we want one?

The taxonomy provided by Elena at TTC is good for public sector, which is what we're concerned with, so we could simply use that for our purposes and say "choose another controlled vocab of your choice if needed?"
