Schema.org is an initiative of the major internet search engines  Bing, Google, Yahoo! and Yandex. It provides a collection of schemas (for microdata) that webmasters can use to markup their pages in ways recognized by search engines. Schema.org is not restricted to a microdata representation languag-only, others, for example the schema.rdfs.org intiative of researchers at DERI, automatically provides RDF Schemas for it.

One of the vocabularies that schema.org provides under a CC BY-SA 3.0 licence is "SoftwareApplication".

Version 0.3 of the ADMS.F/OSS schema already uses some properties of schema:SoftwareApplication, including:

  • schema:operatingSystem
  • schema:version
  • schema:releaseNotes

However, much more of schema.org could be elegible for reuse.
