Different Understandings of Terms 'Asset' and 'Software Asset'.  ADMS.F/OSS appears to use the term 'software asset' in a way which is consistent with the ADMS definition for 'asset', but in a way which appears to be inconsistent with most industry in general, and with most of the IT industry (not just the software industry).  In particular, the ADMS.F/OSS approach is that an asset is abstract or conceptual, independent of any physical embodiment.  This usage will probably cause confusion between F/OSS and non-F/OSS communities.  The term 'Software Asset' as used in ADMS.F/OSS is probably most clearly translated for non-F/OSS communities as 'product', with the corresponding element being product_id.

Using Apache Server as an example, ADMS.F/OSS 0.3 has the following conceptualisation:

The most important name clash might be the one for 'Software Asset' with ISO/IEC 19770-2:2009

Proposal: The following name change is proposed:

  • Software Asset >> Software Release
  • Software Distribution >> Software Package
