How to get started on the Portal: The Homepage

The Interoperable Europe Portal is a valuable resource for accessing and utilising various interoperability tools, frameworks, and guidelines across Europe. 

The Portal - formely known as Joinup -, is the European Commission's one-stop shop for interoperable, open, and free digital government ICT solutions and an online space for e-Government professionals and enthusiasts to share and learn about digital public services and initiatives. It aims to implement the requirements outlined on the Interoperable Europe Act, and to strengthen cooperation with regard to cross-border interoperability between EU public sector bodies.

Step 1: Accessing the Portal

To start using all Portal features, follow the next steps:

  1. Visit the Portal Homepage: Go to the Interoperable Europe Portal
  2. Login/Signup: Ensure you are logged in to access all available features. In order to log in to the platform it is necessary that you have an EU Login account, and that you click on the 'Sign in' button (top right corner). If you don't have yet an account on the Portal, you can click on 'Get started'. More information on accounts can be found here.

Step 2: Navigating the Main Interface

The homepage provides a quick overview of the latest updates, news, and featured tools:

Explore the curated sections that the Portal team updates frequently with the most up-to-date and salient information on the Portal. The “Explore” section offers a quick look at the most recent additions to Collections, Solutions, News and Events.

Step 3: Exploring the Top Menu

The platform’s top navigation bar hosts five key Portal spaces:

  • The Policy space currently serves as a resource for valuable information related to the Interoperable Europe initiative;

  • The Interoperability Solutions space showcases all the interoperable digital solutions for European public services, including software, frameworks, standards, and tools that foster collaboration and digital innovation across various sectors that are available on the platform;

  • The Interoperable Europe Support Centre offers various services on legal, semantic, technical and organisational aspects to improve the interoperability of European digital services; 

  • The Governance space, which aims to host information on all coordination matters related to cross-border interoperability of public services across the EU. This includes a dedicated space for its governance body – the Interoperable Europe Board, or the “Board” – and another space that centralises the most prominent EU digital funding opportunities;

  • The Academy space, where you will find open courses, and support materials to boost public administrations' advanced digital skills in the interoperability field.

Step 4: Browsing the footer

In the bottom part of the Homepage, you may:

  • Discover more about the Portal;
  • Access information on the help and support provided by the Portal Team;
  • Explore the European Commission's useful links; and
  • Find the links to stay updated on all Portal's updates by following its social media channels.

Additionally, the Portal offers an interactive user tour to make you familiar with the basic functionality of the user interface. You can enable this feature by going to the Home Page, scrolling down to the footer area, and under "HELP AND SUPPORT” selecting the option “Take a tour”.

Step 5: Start using the Portal!

The last step is to start engaging with the platform, and for that, we encourage you to:

  • Browse Solutions: Find various solutions and software shared by the community. To do so, use the key search function and type the topic that interests you. In addition to that, all solutions available on the platform can be found in the Solutions hub. 
  • Collaborate: Join communities and participate in discussions. When navigating the platform, click on the “Join the collection” button that can be found on the top left of the collection landing page. 
  • Contribute: Share your own interoperability solutions, best practices and other resources. In order to do so, you need to be a member of the collection under which you would like to create content.
