How to create a post in the Interoperable Europe LinkedIn group

Published on: 19/12/2024 Last update: 08/01/2025 Document

The Interoperable Europe Portal is a centralised point of entry for accessing and sharing a variety of interoperability tools, frameworks, and guidelines across Europe. These resources are shared through the Portal and through its social media channels.

This How-To document outlines the purpose, benefits and the process to follow in order to create a post in the Interoperable Europe LinkedIn group.

The Purpose of the LinkedIn Group

The Interoperable Europe Portal group on LinkedIn was created with the purpose to facilitate the exchange of best practices and to initiate discussions on the use of open source software and solutions in public administrations. It is a community of practice, aggregated news, studies, knowledge and events. It should also be noted that this group accommodates and encourages posts from other Interoperable Europe Portal stakeholders such as OSORNIFOEUPLInteroperability Test Bed, and Interoperability Academy among others.

The Benefits of the Group

Posting on the Interoperable Europe LinkedIn group has several benefits:

  • Promote your content to a targeted audience.
  • Reach over a thousand eGovernment professionals.
  • Receive immediate feedback.
  • Assess the popularity of your posts to guide future content.

If you are not already a member, you could quickly become part of the Interoperable Europe group on LinkedIn by requesting membership the moment you reach the group’s page.

Posting on the Group

There are two methods that could be used to post your items, depending on the level of audience “reachability” you wish, and whether your posts should be shared or not.

Method 1: General audience availability with “Share” option

This involves creating, at first, the post outside the Interoperable Europe group in order to take advantage of the availability of the “Share” option that will allow you and any others to promote it further.

  1. In your LinkedIn Home page, click on the “Start a post” field at the top of the page and create a post as usual.

2. In order to also bring this post inside the Interoperable Europe group (exposing it to the group’s eGovernment-related audience), first, click on the post’s “Share” option.

3. Then click on the “Anyone” dropdown box under the LinkedIn account name that created the post:

4. In the window that appears, select the “Group” entry.

5. Then, select the “Interoperable Europe” group entry.

6. Click on the “Save” button to complete the process.

Method 2: Targeted audience availability without “Share” option

When posting directly in closed-type LinkedIn groups, like the Interoperable Europe group, the “Share” option is not available. Thus, you and other interested members will not have the ability to share it outside the group. This method offers a kind of restrictive distribution of your post to only the members of the group which, in some cases, could be the intended result.

To post directly in the Interoperable Europe group you need to be a member (you may request membership simply by reaching the group’s page). Enter the group’s area and click on the “Start a public post” field at the top of the page.
