During the Open Data Days 2025 in Luxembourg, Norway presented new features that have been recently included in data.norge.no, the country’s open data portal. This project showcases how AI can encourage and support open data accessibility.

One of the key updates is an AI-powered smart search function, designed to put users in the centre and allow them to find datasets and access information using everyday language, without the need for technical terms or specific keywords. This user-centric approach significantly enhances data discoverability.

Another newly introduced tool is the data hunter, which allows users to request not yet published data. This feature allows them to connect with public institutions that can help in identifying, gathering and releasing information based on users’ needs.

To further encourage collaboration and dialogue, Norway’s national portal also hosts an open and accessible discussion forum, where users can exchange knowledge, ideas and solutions about open data and shape the creation of a more inclusive and responsive environment.

Norway’s action aligns with the Europe’s open data strategy, focused on making data easier to access, understand and use.
